FOOD & TRADITIONAL MARKET TOUR
Yukhoe-Mulhoe (Cold Beef Tartare Soup)
The main ingredient of mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) is usually seafood, but Gyeongju is famous for mulhoe made with Korean beef, called yukhoe-mulhoe, which presents tender yukhoe (beef tartare) with fresh vegetables and sauce for the raw fish soup. The combination of tender beef, crispy pear and cucumber, and sweet and sour sauce makes a tasty dish.
Yaksu Dak Baeksuk (Whole Chicken Soup Cooked in Mineral Water)
Yaksu dak baeksuk is one of the most typical dishes found in Cheongsong. It is a whole chicken soup; chicken is boiled in “yaksu”, or carbonic acid mineral water, from Dalgi Yaksutang and Sinchon Yaksutang with a number of medicinal herbs over a long time. The mineral water coming out of cracks in the rocks removes the smell of chicken and makes the meat tender. That is why many chicken soup restaurants are found around mineral springs.

Gwamegi (Half-Dried Mackerel Pike)
A delicacy in Pohang in winter, gwamegi refers to mackerel pike, which was repeatedly frozen and thawed in clean areas along the East Coast. In the past, herring was used to make gwamegi, but mackerel pike took over its place due to a decreased catch of herring. Guryongpo is particularly known for high-quality gwamegi because it meets all the criteria to make perfect gwamegi, such as the fish’s freshness, wind and temperature.
Gaeun Ajagae Market
